Tips on Installing a Sliding Door for Your Patio

The walls in the homes look plain in the edges even when it is painted with a certain color or wall paper is used. The best way to make it look better is by using wall moldings which are available in different variations from the hardware store.

A lot of homeowners have chosen to use hardwood molding. There are two ways of doing this namely the traditional method which uses a miter, cope and scarf or the corner block installation method which is done by making a few straight cuts.

The first step before buying the moldings is to measure the height of the room. Since most moldings are sold in 8-inch lengths, the right way to calculate is by dividing the footage by eight and then multiplying this by 1.1. This will determine how pieces will be needed to avoid running short in the middle of the project plus a ten percent allowance for wastage.

After buying the materials, it is time to cut this into different lengths. This can be done by using a power miter saw that has a 60 tooth blade. The person should not cut it exactly to the right measurement so there is room for adjustments. It will be a good idea to pre-drill a few holes to prevent it from splitting.

The positioning of the molding is important before these is done. For the inside corners for example, this should be done at a 45-degree angle so the edge of the cut is visible from the front. The opposite is done at the same degree for the outside corner. This allows both to stick to each other later on when this is placed on the wall.

Another thing the homeowner should do is applying the finish to the molding before installing it. This will prevent staining the wall so the only thing to do is hammering a nail into it. This should be done in a dry and well-ventilated dust free area so no one will get sick because of the smell.

The person must also leave a small amount for some finishing touches. This often happens especially around the raw edges.

The wall moulding cannot be just hammered into the wall. There must be something strong that will hold it in place so the homeowner should determine where the wall studs are located.

Since this has already been pre drilled earlier, there won't be a problem getting one piece and putting it in followed by the others. This is not a one-man job so it will be a good idea if someone in the household is holding one side in place while other is doing the hammering.

Aside from the paint finish that will be used for the raw edges, the individual should also have some wood putty or filler stick to cover the holes made the nails. Those who decide to use another material aside from hardwood will have to use a bead of caulk to get this done.

The same operation of installing wood moldings for the living room is also the same for the other rooms in the house. The first step is calculating how much is needed, then cutting this into the right sizes, when these are up this is the time some minor retouches are necessary making the work look like this was done by a professional.
