How a SEER is Determined

To determine a central air conditioners seasonal energy efficiency ratio the department takes into account the unit’s BTU (British Thermal Units) that is provided by the unit’s yearly output during normal usage and divides that by its complete energy input, which they use watt-hours for. This is all done during the same one-year period. You can find the central air conditioner’s SEER by looking for a yellow label that is attached to the unit. The higher the SEER number the better the energy efficiency is. Most will have a number from about six to eighteen. Eighteen is the highest and most efficient central air conditioner you could find.
