Tips to Consider When Painting Kitchen Cabinets

A lot of activities happen in the kitchen. With the heat and the stains that occur frequently, it is no wonder that many spend a lot of time redecorating or making some changes in this section of the house.

Sadly, it is quite costly to throw out the old stuff and replace this with something new. Those who are very budget conscious may decide to do some repainting instead which can be done even without hiring someone else to do it.

Here are some things any homeowner should do before going forward with this home improvement project.

First, the person must plan when will this take place? It usually takes two coating and a few hours to dry. This means no one will be able to eat here for two to three days. The worse case scenario for those who do not have roaster outside will be to eat out until the paint job has been completed.

Next, the homeowner must think about the color. It doesn't have to be the same as the old one because nobody will notice the difference. Light colors helps make people think the place is huge even if it this is not true.

Should the inside be painted as well? Normally, people only do this for the outside because this is what is seen by the public. Since the items inside have to be taken out anyway, it wouldn’t hurt to do the same for the interior.

Painting the kitchen cabinets is not just getting a brush and painting over the old one. This must be cleaned first using a piece of cloth to remove any dust and grease that is still present.

The homeowner also has to check if there are cracks on the kitchen cabinets. This is because paint will not be able to cover it. Some sandpaper and wood putty must be used for this.

Some masking tape must then be used to cover the hinges and the other things that are not part of the paint job. It is only after doing this that the real fun begins. The technique in painting must always be for the painter to work inside and then work outwards.

If some areas are hard to reach, it won't be a bad idea to use a can of spray paint as long as this matches the one in the can. This has to be done in one stroke. Those who want to do it up and downwards should not go sideways so there is consistency all throughout the project.

After the first coating, the individual should take a break and see how well things are going. This will determine which areas will need more work than others come the second coating.

The kitchen cabinet will look good as new after painting the new color over the old one. The only thing to do now is return all the stuff to its proper places and then clean up a bit so the kitchen can now resume its normal operations.

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to remodeling any part of the home. If this is what the homeowner wants, so be it. Improvements can be done again next year when stains and dirt once again pile up in the kitchen.
