The Momeni Rug and Its Status Symbol

Owning a momeni rug is a bit of a status symbol. For over fifty years Momeni Persian rugs have been marketed by Haji Momeni who has been bringing them to the United States. The styles have changed over the years but one thing that stays the same is the family’s reputation for personally supervising the handmade production of the rugs. A member of the Momeni family is always there to supervise every step of each rug’s manufacture. For that reason, the momeni rug has become associated with quality.

Yet another reason why these gorgeous, authentic Persian rugs have been recognized as a benchmark in the industry when it comes to quality is because the company has repeatedly one America’s Magnificent Carpet award. Of course this kind of reputation and quality does not come cheap. Although affordable, a quality momeni rug is usually a bit more expensive then other brands.

Every season a different collection of momeni rug styles is offered and you can read about them in detail on the company’s website. A mainstay collection that never seems to go out of style is the Agra collection. Agra is inspired by traditional Persin Heriz designs and tribal patterns that are rendered in warm rich colors and then mellowed in a light tea rinse.

A newer collection is the company’s Antique Americana Collection of momeni rugs that is inspired by pieces shown on the television show Antiques Roadshow. The Antiques Roadshow Estate collection features rugs with themes that are inspired by art movements, ancient cultures and old architectural motifs.

The momeni rug company has also taken in the tastes of its largely status conscious, middle class clientele and created a collection called the Antique Manor collection and the Antique Empire collection. These are largely a collection of floral prints that range in influence from the 1800s onwards.

A unique set of carpet designs offered by momeni rugs is the Aspen collection, which features an eclectic collection of rugs, inspired by Najaho Indian and Turkish Kilim designs. This makes for a cozy looking, rustic type of rug that is a very interesting hybrid of cultures.

A little more contemporary is the Capri collection which features bold graphics on plain backgrounds. This type of momeni rug best suits seventies and eighties retro decors.

Perhaps one of the most versatile collections offered by the momeni rug company is the Cardigan collection. These are rugs that are made up from a single color that has been divided into its different hues. This is a very versatile carpet that is a warm and attractive complement to any room. Like all of the momeni carpets even this plainest of rugs is hand tufted, finished with tie-dye and handwoven from 100% wool.
