Tips on Toilet Installation

The bathroom is composed of many things. It must have a sink, a shower head or a bathtub and lastly, the toilet. If the homeowner has lived in the house for a number of years and notices that it does not flush that well anymore, perhaps it is to buy a new one instead of hiring a plumber to fix it.

Toilets come with all the parts already so the customer does not have to go to another section of the hardware store to buy it. These parts generally consists of the bowl, the tank, the gasket, toilet seat and the water tube. Work can begin after getting this and making sure all the tools are already there.

The first thing to do will be to shut off the toilet. This is because water will go out if it is not yet closed. There will be some excess water, which can be cleaned using a piece of cloth and a bucket.

With the pair of pliers in hand or a wrench, the nut holding the water line between the toilet and the wall must be unfastened. One this has been removed, the old unit can be taken out and cleaned first before the new one is set to take its place.

Installing the new unit is not that different from taking out the old one. The person should make start by putting the two ¼ bolts that were taken out earlier back into the sides of the flange which is usually straight up and across form each other. Once this is complete, some wax and tape should be placed here to prevent any leaks.

The individual should then set the new bowl exactly where the two bolts are to lock it in place. One way to test if this is secured is by sitting on the toilet and checking how it feels. If this fits nicely, the only thing to do now is tighten the bolts. This should be done slowly because too much pressure can damage the bowl.

The next thing to do will to be to set up the water tank. This means working on the gasket and the rubber washers. This should also be secured tightly to prevent water from spilling all over the place.

When everything is ready, it is time to turn on the valve so water will flow into the tank. It should stop when the ball has reached a certain point meaning that it is full. The person will then flush the toilet to see if the water in the bowl goes all the way down and if this happens, then it is a job well done.

The toilet bowl must be cleaned regularly to prevent it from getting clogged. This doesn't involve removing anything similar to replacing the old unit for a new one but merely applying a cleaning detergent. A piece of cloth and a brush can be used to clean the undercarriage of the toilet seat and on the rim of the bowl because this is where germs are usually located.

It will be sometime before any of the parts in the water tank have to replaced. Until then, the homeowner should just enjoy the new toilet bowl every time ones goes into the bathroom and presses the flush switch.
