About the Bed Spread and Comforter
Is there much of a difference between a bed spread and comforter? There certainly is. A bed spread is a cover that is usually made of a thin or decorative material (such as cotton or chenille.) It covers other linens that might be on the bed. A comforter is much thicker an fluffier and usually stuffed with some kind of insulating filling as foam or bird down. Usually you are able to purchase both a bed spread and comforter in the same type of retail store. You can also find both the bed spread and comforter on sale in almost any retail store including fine department stores and discount store. The bed spread and comforter are both items that are quite easy to come by, even online where designer versions can be found for great discounted prices. You can also purchase a bed spread and comforter at online auctions and in online stores and specialty boutiques. Most comforters are easy to transport home in your car as they are quite light. The same thing goes for shipping a bed spread and comforters. However exactly how heavy a comforter may be might have a lot to do with exactly what it is filled with. As a rule of thumb comforters stuffed with foam or cotton are a great deal lighter in weight than those stuffed with feathers. The weight of a comforter might also depend on what it is made of. For instance a denim, corduroy or velvet comforter will weigh a lot more (and thus cost more to ship if you have ordered it online) then a cotton or silk one. The same goes for bedspreads – the heavier the material is the more difficult it will be to just throw in the washer or have delivered to you online cheap. The great thing about a bed comforter is that it can be used on a bed the entire year round as most are designed to keep you warm on cold nights and cooler on warmer nights. Still sometimes a comforter gets a bit hot so you might want to consider only covering yourself with a sheet and bedspread during toastier days in the summer. As both the bed spread and the comforter come in almost every color and style imaginable it is not difficult to find the one that is right for your fashion décor. There are also many textured fabrics and other details such as buttons, lace and fringes that can add to the personality of your bedroom. You will want to pay special attention to and read the care instructions for your comforter for your bed before you go and stuff it into the washing machine. However, if the comforter that you have is machine washable, you will want to take it to a laundry mat and use a commercial size washing machine to clean it. Doing this will save your washing machine from undue stress. Most bedspreads can just be thrown in the machine but read the labels on the product carefully as some can only be dry-cleaned.
